The Nature Boy from Upper Austria
Wines from Upper Austria may still be unusual for many. However, those of Armin Kienesberger are among the best in the country today. Quite remarkable for a career changer.
It produces “only” 7000 bottles a year. And that’s all he wants to do. Because Armin Kienesberger’s philosophy is clearly defined: “I want to be a farmer, to be in the vineyard and in the cellar myself. And realize my craft with every single bottle of wine. The wine is always completely me.” Since 2010, Kienesberger has worked his way up from stonemason as a career changer in viticulture to the top. In 2019, Gault&Millau named him “Discovery of the Year”. “This award has helped a lot. Before that, I always had to explain why wine was made in Upper Austria of all places.”
